Alternative to Facebook Home and a Parody

device-2013-04-04-180256Facebook’s new Home on Android will be available in the US at least, late next week and already it has competition from SO.HO Social Launcher available for free at the Google Play store.

A product of INQ the folks who brought us the original “Facebook Phone” SO.HO Social Launcher is designed for those of us hooked on Facebook or Twitter. It allows you to customise your Android smartphone by adding your favourite social networks to your Homescreen. As SO.HO is a launcher not an app, it is a full screen social experience right after you unlock, so it’s even easier for you to check out what’s happening on all your social networks without diving in and out of apps.

Features:

device-2013-04-04-180226– SO.HO puts Facebook & Twitter in one place to make it easier for you to see what’s happening on all your social networks
– Simple and quick to set up. Just tap the icon and choose to use SO.HO instead of your standard launcher. Once you’ve logged into your Facebook or Twitter account you’re ready to go
– Easy to switch between networks – just tap the title bar to switch between Facebook and Twitter
– Easy to use on the go. Just unlock your phone and Tweet, update status, like, comment or check-in, at a tap

SO.HO is still in beta so there may be a few glitches I found some of the transitions weren’t as smooth as they could be. As well, it will only run on Android phones (not Tablets) running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or better. I tested it on Android 4.2.2 Jellybean and fount it worked pretty well but it clearly still needs some work.

SO.HO is a free download from the Google Play store and is a cool app for those who want to keep up with their social networks right from the home screen.

Now for a little laugh, it took only one day for Facebook Home to be parodied on YouTube.

Hope you enjoyed that, and it does actually raise some interesting issues. What do you think?
