First Look: Cool Back to School Stuff from Telus

Earlier today Telus showed off it’s Back to School lineup of devices as it expressed optimism about the growth in Smartphone use. The growth in smartphone use is fueled by huge increases in texting, app usage and web surfing. Voice calls represent just under a third of the minutes used by the average smartphone per month. This fact is reflected in the feature sets in Telus’ Back to School device releases.

The INQ Cloud Touch is Telus’ first phone designed for the social network with tight integration with Facebook right on the home page. You can watch YouTube videos and directly access your Facebook status right from the homepage.

LG Optimus Chat is a worthy follow to the budget LG Optimus One featuring a slide out QWERTY keyboard is aimed at heavy texters. While the Optimus Chat is available for as little as $10 per month for voice and text with no contract, it is a good starter smartphone. With a data plan it provides the full Android experience with access acces to all the apps on the Android Market.

Next up is the HTC Status coming Friday it is Telus’ first so called Facebook phone. This  solid entry-level device comes with an extremely bright 2.6″ landscape screen with a QWERTY keyboard. This is a full-blown smartphone featuring Android Gingerbread 2.3.3 but its pièce de résistance is the active Facebook button at the bottom of the keyboard which flashes when there is new Facebook content for you.

And finally the LG Optimus Black, Skype Edition a clean, elegant and exceedingly thin smartphone that is barely there..9.2mm (0.36″) thick and a featherweight 109 grams (3.8 oz.). It is one cool looking phone with a 4″ extremely bright screen covered in Monster Glass. It features full Skype integration and you can charge your Skype directly to your Telus bill.

All these phones are Exclusive to Telus..I expect to have full reviews of the HTC Status and the LG Optimus Black Skype Edition next week..so watch for them.
