Flipboard launches iPhone app–System crashes

Wildly popular on the iPad Flipboard launched an iPhone version today. Flipboard is a  social media aggregator that organizes your friends’ tweets, posts, and links into a magazine-like spread. It was named iPad app of the year and has been one of my favourite news readers.

The iPhone version was greatly anticipated and it seems Flipboard didn’t realize how much demand it would create. Hours after the launch Flipboard posted this tweet

Flipboard was back on line by the lunch hour so now you can try out the new iPhone app..I think you will like it. While the iPhone interface is reminiscent of the iPad it is designed to function better on the smaller screen..for example with pages that flip vertically it is designed to be used in portrait mode, but when pictures or video require landscape, you can simply rotate your iPhone’s screen. Plus the next page is already loaded under the one currently displayed flipping between pages is especially snappy.

If you liked Flipboard on the iPad you will love it on your iPhone. It is free at the App Store.
