One could argue that there isn’t much need for a standalone dictionary app these days..after all Wikipedia and Google puts definitions and spellings a click away. But there are times when you just want to browse around for a word or look one up yourself. That’s where the Merriam-Webster Dictionary comes in.

Who knew that the word gadget dates back to the late 19th century 🙂 The Merriam- Webster is a well known name in the word lookup business and it comes with features like audio pronunciations, a search history and a browse mode that lets you search and learn new words just for the fun of it. One of the features I really like is voice search.

Of course nothing in this world is free..the price you pay for having such a powerful tool at your fingertips is the discrete ads at the bottom of the page.

You can download the Merriam-Webster Dictionary HD for iPad at the Apple App Store
