Get Google maps back on your iPhone/iPad..there’s an app for that

So far the only option available if you if you don’t like the much maligned Apple Maps has been to use Google Maps on the web. Now, Cult of Mac reports Katsumi Kishikawa has created an app for iPhone and iPad, called ClassicMap.

Cult of Mac says that it’s a “wrapper” for map data from elsewhere. The Standard mode shows you the regular iOS 6 maps data from the new app, but when you turn up the bottom-right corner and select Classic mode, you’ll be able to view that old familiar iOS 5 Maps layout. Cult of Mac says that it is pretty much the same as the old Google Maps app in a basic form minus such goodies as direction-finding and Street View, there are no Points of Interest either. Aside from these shortcomings it works fine, although a little slow, they say. ClassicMap features map, satellite and hybrid views in both modes.

So it’s not perfect but at least you get access to the Google data within a the Maps app..and it is a free download from the App Store. So far is only seems to be available on the US store.
