Google rolling out new Search experience for Tablets
“As part of our effort to evolve the Google design and experience, we’ve improved the www.google.com search experience on tablets. We’ve simplified the layout of search results pages and increased the size of page contents like text, buttons and other touch targets to make it faster and easier to browse and interact with search results in portrait or landscape view.”
The search button has been moved to below the search box. It provides quick access to specific types of results like Images, Videos, Places, Shopping and more. Just tap to
open the search menu and select an option to see results in one category. The time frame buttons are on the same bar and work in a similar fashion. The All Results line scrolls to reveal items off the edge of the screen..this gives Google plenty of latitude to add search features.
Google has changed the way it displays image search results. Image
previews are much larger, there is continuous scroll and image thumbnails load a lot faster. You will notice the Sites with images choice offers an interesting view.
I think I like this new layout..it looks less cluttered on my iPad and the buttons are big enough to manage with my stubby fingers..the fonts are a good size and easier to read and the whole thing is much more comfortable to navigate with my fingers. The down side is that fewer results are shown on the page..and pinch to zoom is gone..perhaps not a big deal for most of us because of the bigger type on the new format..but certainly a huge deal for people with vision issues.
The new layout is rolling out to iPad and Android 3.1+ tablets across 36 languages gradually over the next few days starting with Google.com..if it doesn’t appear on your edition..Google.ca for example, as I write this.. and you want to take a look..just click on Go to Google.com under the search bar. I would love to hear what you think about this change..please comment below.
