HP TouchPad is $399!

Last weekend HP Touchpads at the fire sale price of $99 for the 16Gb version and $149 for the 32Gb version sold out almost instantly. In fact I don’t know anyone who actually bought one at those prices. Well, Future Shop and Best Buy have the discontinued tablet in their Canadian Flyers at $399 and $499. Best Buy advertises it as a New Price Drop.

What does this mean for all those who ordered from both stores at the fire sale price and had their orders cancelled mid-week for lack of stock?

Quite frankly I think this whole thing stinks..a product launch to poor reviews and sales, a price reduction and still no sales to speak of. This is followed by a liquidation sale that sold out almost instantly. Now the HP TouchPad is back on store shelves at the original price reduction. What is HP trying to do here?

What do you think? Would you buy a TouchPad for $399?

Looks like HP is totally lost. They killed the pad, then saw a demand for it so they raised the price back up. Who is going to pay full price for a pad that will not have updates or support? Last Sunday on NBC during the football game they kept advertising the pad which is weird since they said they didn’t have any stock left. HP looks like they are in way over their heads on this one.

When I clicked the Future Shop ad it takes me to a HP Touchpad FAQ. They say they don’t have them in stock anymore. Here is the url:

Winnipeg future shop and best buy showed ads listing this item. Following the link to the futures op flyer advert it went to a page that said no stock avail.

I think these ads were placed a while back and maybe could not be pulled.

    Pretty shabby marketing IMO…
