iPhone 5 is iPhone 4S..Apple shares tank
There have been rumours for months about what will be featured in the iPhone 5. A lot of those rumours came true at Apple HQ in Cupertino today except they are features of Apple’s new smartphone….the iPhone 4S. The stock market was unimpressed..Apple closed down 4%.
The picture looks like iPhone 4..because on the outside the iPhone 4S is identical..all the changes are inside. There is iOS 5 with a bunch of new features, an A5 dual core processor with dual core graphics as well for much improved performance. The iPhone 4S claims up to 8 hours of talk time and there is a new antenna system that can switch between available antennas to come up with a maximum performance of 14.4 Mbps down. That’s on par with real world 4G, claims Apple. It’s also a world phone, so it works on CDMA and GSM networks.
A new camera rear facing camera has a larger 8-megapixel sensor and a maximum photo output resolution of 3264 x 2448 resolution and better night picture-taking. It achieves this with a CMOS backside illuminated sensor, and 1/3 faster shutter speed. The improved lens has a f/2.4 aperture and high-end IR filter. Video is now 1080p HD with real time video image stabilization and noise reduction.
Apple spent nearly half the iPhone 4S demo talking about Siri..voice recognition technology that allows natural language interaction with the phone and while described as a beta it looked pretty awesome during the demo. For some reason it is absent from the Apple Canada iPhone 4S site..I wonder what that means?
The iPhone 4S will be available in black and white, in 16 GB for $199, 32 GB for $299 and 64 GB for $399. The iPhone 4 will continue to be available in black and white for just $99 in an 8 GB capacity, and the iPhone 3GS will now be free on contract. Pre-orders begin on Oct. 7 for an Oct. 14 launch in the U.S., Canada, Australia, the U.K., France, Germany and Japan.
I watched the launch live as well as following along on twitter and a couple of live streams..A lot of the new features are already on Android and Apple delayed the launch by three months to come up with a more powerful iPhone 4 to catch up with Google. The disappointment was obvious so I thought I would share some reactions with you. I am using a beta version of Scoop.it to do this..let me know what you think.
