“it’s a Small World”…Great for travelling with young ones

Who doesn’t recognize Robert and Richard Sherman‘s timeless It’s a Small World (after all)? Some of us even remember it from Pepsi Presents WALT DISNEY’S “it’s a small world” – a Salute to UNICEF and the World’s Children attraction at the Pepsi pavilion at the 1964 New York World’s Fair. Then there the attractions at Disney World and Disneyand. Now there is the game for iPad.

This colorful kids’ application uses the lyrics to Robert and Richard Sherman‘s popular song as the basis for a journey that is part amusement park ride and part picture book. Navigating the app is easy, even for the youngest users. Kids may choose to begin the journey across the continents by pressing the start arrow, or join in a sing-along complete with interactive digital fireworks as they visit various countries, cultures, and situations that vary from the realistic to the utterly fantastic. Kids can touch the screen to reveal interactive elements such as tugging an elephant’s trunk to hear it trumpet.

Since the text is all read aloud there is no enjoyment lost for the child who can’t read yet. It is a fun game for iPhone and iPad, well worth the somewhat steep $3.99 price at the App Store
