Kobo eReader update is all about connections

Just launched updates for the Kobo eReader for iOS add a bunch of new features to the reader’s popular social program Reading Life. The free app is available for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch and the new 4.5 version is all about connections – you can connect with your friends on Facebook to see what books they are reading, how many books you have read, Reading Life™ stats and more.

The new update allows you to:

  • See the books friends have read and ask them for recommendations
  • See the books you have in common
  • Compare Reading Life awards
  • Compare and measure progress with friends through Reading Life stats, including the number of books read, time read and more
  • Invite friends to join on Kobo via Facebook or email

It adds a whole new dimension to reading. Reading a book is no longer a solitary experience..on Kobo it becomes a shared experience.

I have been using the Kobo app since I bought my first iPad last year and have been very satisfied..there have been occasional glitches along the way but Kobo was quick to address any issues and now the app is darn near perfect. It loads fast..remembers my books and my place…even if I forget to bookmark it…and I can pick up where I left off on another device such as my Android Phone.

But the reader app is only a part of the is what is in the back room that makes all the difference and that is the Kobo eBook store.

I started using the Kobo store almost two years ago when I found the store associated with my Sony eReader didn’t sell a lot of current tiles in Canada. Shopping around for something better I found Kobo the electronic bookstore for Toronto based Indigo/Chapters and was almost instantly hooked.

Kobo has a huge selection of titles with prices that match or beat all the competition. Plus Kobo runs periodic specials where I have been able to save up to 25% on book purchases..that’s when I stock up!

So, it was a no-brainer for me to ignore the Apple iBooks app and load the Kobo app into my new iPad last year. I can’t remember the last time I couldn’t find what I wanted at the right price in the Kobo store.

The Kobo app is available for every Smartphone and  Tablet..iOS, Android, Blackberry and Palm Prē.

Whatever device or eReader you are using (except Kindle),  if you are not using the Kobo Store, check it out, see what you are missing. You won’t be sorry.
