Microsoft Surface RT pricing puts it head to head with iPad
It’s final: we all knew Surface wasn’t going to be a bargain-basement product.. But Microsoft’s chosen price point of between $519 and $719 ($499 t0 $699 in the US) puts it in direct price competition with the iPad, the current premium tablet.
The $519 version with 32Gb is pretty bare bones..all you get is the tablet if you want the Touch cover it will cost you $129 ($119 in the US) and you get a choice of colour..or you can order a 32GB version bundled with a black Touch Cover priced at $619 (US$599), and a 64GB version bundled with a black Touch Cover priced at $719 (US$699). A variety of accessories will also be available, including Touch Covers in five vibrant colors — black, white, magenta, cyan and red — priced at $129 (US$119.99) so you can express your personal style. Also available is a Type Cover in black for $139 (US$129.99), which adds moving keys for a more traditional typing feel.
Now that we know the price will be competitive with the Apple iPad I’m looking forward to trying out a Surface so I can let you know how it stacks up against the leading tablet. One thing for sure is the iPad is way ahead on apps..so far Microsoft has been slow getting its app store ecosystem off the ground. On paper the Surface has a hardware advantage over the iPad so it will be interesting to see how the Surface fares in the real world.
The Microsoft Surface RT tablet is available for pre-order from Microsoft stores in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States..check here for the online store in your country
