Multitouch gaming comes to the web with IE10 and Windows 8

Contre Jour started as an iOS game winning a bunch of awards, including the 2011 “iPad Game of the Year” and a 2012 Webby award nomination for“Best Tablet Game.” Now it comes to the web courtesy Windows 8 and Internet Explorer 10 and is certainly among  the most ambitious uses of HTML5 to date. Take a look at this video in which the  creator of Contre Jour talks about the game.

Now, I don’t have access to a Windows 8 touchscreen device so I tried it out on IE9 on my PC. Even hampered by the mouse I was amazed how smooth and slick the gameplay was..the developer seems to have really leveraged the features of HTML 5 in porting Contre Jour to the web. I quite liked the the hero..Petit even there is not much to him more than the big expressive eye.

Based on my experience using a mouse, I suspect the game will be a lot more fun on a Multitouch Windows 8 Tablet..I guess I will have to wait until the Windows 8 launch on October 26th to find out 🙂 Still this impressive use of HTML 5 to produce such a responsive web game opens the door to all kinds of possibilities for truly cross platform gaming.
