Sir Richard Branson opens Virgin Mobile flagship store…Launches new phone..and brings money for Dans la rue.
It is Virgin Mobile’s first walk-in store in Canada in the heart of downtown Montreal at the corner of Drummond and Ste-Catherine..the 130 other Virgin Mobile outlets across Canada are kiosques in shopping centres.
So the occasion brought out Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson, Glee star and Virgin Unite ambassador Cory Monteith and Quebec pop singer IMA..she will sing the National Anthem at the Grand Prix this weekend.
They arrived in the Dans la rue RV. Dans la rue is a well known Montreal organization that works with street kids and at risk youth. Founded by Fatrher Emmett “Pops” Johns Dans la rue’s iconic RV has been a fixture on Montreal’s overnight streets offering a haven for street kids for the past 23 years.
This year the operation of the RV will be financed by the RE*Generation movement founded by Virgin Mobile and Virgin Unite the non-profit foundation of the Virgin Group of companies. RE*Generation is a movement aimed at getting young people and partners to support solutions to youth homelessness and support at-risk youth programs in Canada. Thus, Sir Richard Branson presented a cheque of $100,000 to Dans la rue.
That is half of the $200,000 Virgin Mobile and Samsung plan to contribute to the RE*Generation movement which brings us to the second launch of the day..the limited edition Samsung Gravity 3 phone which goes on sale today. $15 from the sale of every phone will go directly to the RE*Generation movement.
The Samsung Gravity 3 is a feature phone with a slide out qwerty keyboard, 2MP camera and GPS nav. It is available at all Virgin Mobile outlets. The price ranges from $0 to $129 depending on the plan you choose.
