Solid portable speaker from Logitech

I have always been happy with speakers from Logitech so I had high hopes for their new UE line of audio products..fruit of a  purchase  a few years ago of Ultimate Ears,. The company is famous for creating a new market for custom In Ear Monitors (IEMs) which are now used by most of the world’s top touring musicians. Logitech is offering a full range of UE branded sound products..today I am trying out the Mobile Boombox.

The Logitech UE Mobile Boombox is a small 4.4″x2.6″x2.4″ unit weighing 298g that delivers surprising sound for its size. It has a rubberized white or black finish with speaker grills in a variety of colours. The Mobile Boombox is designed to play back from smartphones, tablets and other devices that support Bluetooth wireless audio profile [Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP)] or 3.5 mm audio output. I tried it from a variety of Android and Apple phones and tablets..pairing was quick and simple in all cases.

Once paired the Mobile Boombox lets you know it is ready to go with a discrete chime and the resulting audio..considering the bandwidth limitations of Bluetooth was impressive..nice response across the range although the bass from a base reflex slot was a tad on the thin side..overall very satisfying for a personal speaker. The volume was quite amazing..full blast with nary a bit of distortion..loud enough for a small party.

The Mobile Boombox also functions as a speakerphone..the audio is a bit hollow but clear and understandable…callers will know you are on a speakerphone. There are no phone controls on the speaker, you have to start and end calls from the phone.

This is an impressive little speaker that punches above its weight..performance compares favourably to speakers selling for twice the price. A  really good buy at $119.99 in Canada and $99.99 in the US direct from Logitech with free shipping as well as most stores where Logitech products are sold.
