A cool construction toy—for girls!

Wander the aisles of any toy store and you will see dozens of construction toys..all aimed at boys..that may be why more than 90% of engineers in the US are men. San Francisco-based entrepreneur Debbie Sterling wants to change all that. She obtained her engineering degree from  Stanford where she was one of 181 women in a class of nearly 700. The result is GoldieBlox to inspire girls the way Legos and Erector sets have inspired boys, for over 100 years, to develop an early interest and skill set in engineering. Debbie says “It’s time to motivate our girls to help build our future.”

Gadgets galore at CES 2012

The consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas is a wonderland of gadgets and gizmos..Most of the attention goes to the mainstream stuff..TVs, Smartphones, Tablets etc. But, tucked away in the corners are some wonderful little gadgets that count on CES for their 15 minutes of fame. Sphero is really cute little gadget available to order either from Amazon or Sphero’s website for $129. Basically, Sphero is a robotic ball that works via Bluetooth, and you control it using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Tilt, touch or swing your device and engage in a mixed reality experience as you use the various game apps that come with Sphero to play both in the virtual and real worlds. You can even use your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to change Sphero’s colour. Sphero will run for about an hour at full speed on a charge..recharge takes about three hours.

I am less shy about the Pro Series guitar. Now I can’t carry a tune in a basket but I managed to sound not bad on this guitar. What do you think?
