Watch house, kids, pets — Live from anywhere!

My friends at Lorex just sent me their latest home video monitor. You may recall I reviewed a baby monitor from Lorex some time ago and I really liked it. Well, the Lorex Live Connect is another winner.

Everything you need comes in the box even screws to mount the camera on the wall. Compact and attractive the Live Connect has three major components. The camera is a fairly typical Lorex features a high resolution image sensor that captures good video day or night. The night-vision feature has a range of 6.7m (22ft) and includes a built in microphone. It also includes a rechargeable battery.

The camera is wireless and sends clear digital video and audio to the portable receiver that works up to 45m(150 ft) away from the camera. It is small and lightweight and features a smallish 320×240 screen..that’s the price you pay for a monitor that fits in a shirt pocket. The monitor will run for about four hours on a charge and allows you to monitor up to four cameras one at a time. It also records video on a included micro SD card.

The Wireless gateway is the component that sets this system apart from all the rest. You plug it into your home router using the included ethernet cable.

In a few minutes you will see it appear in your home network. It has a built in web interface so all you have to do is click on the icon in your network folder and you are connected to the web interface. Setup takes just a few minutes and consists primarily of setting up a free Skype account for the gateway. Once that is done your camera can be viewed from anywhere in the world using Skype. That means a desktop or laptop computer equipped with Skype, most current Android smartphones and tablets, iPhone 3G or better with iOS 4 or better and iPad. I set the camer up to watch my back yard and used my iPad 2 to view you can see the picture is pretty good.

Think of what you can do with and listen to the kids at play while you are away..set it up to watch the house and you can look in from anywhere..check on the baby from a need to call the sitter..the posibilities are endless!

The Lorex Live Connect is available directly from Lorex for $ is also available at some Best Buy and Future Shop stores and other places security products are sold.
