Watch TV on your iPad…There are apps for that

Miss your favourite TV program last night?..got time to kill on your daily commute?..why not watch the episode you missed on your iPad. There are apps to let you do that and there is a really good chance your favourite TV program is available on demand for playback on your iPad or iPhone.

 

CTV’s app includes an interactive element..The basic features allow you to watch on-demand streaming of CTV shows, view photos, see TV schedules and watch trailers. Social Screen serves as a companion during select prime time shows. You will be able to access  a “curated chat environment that includes tweets from cast members, Facebook comments and other insider and public commentary from across the social web.

The Global Video app is a “universal app” available for download on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Watch full-length episodes and clips for all your favourite Global shows..The app features progress bars that allow you to quit watching a show at any time and return to the same spot when you resume viewing — even after you’ve exited the application. You can browse program listings up to two weeks in advance and watch web exclusive content from your favourite show.

On the CBC app a limited selection of its shows for viewing..the selection is a bit bland but most of the shows offer the full season for on demand viewing..there seens to be fewer commercials than on the other networks’ apps.

CityTV was the one of the  first networks to offer an streaming video on the iPad. Its app seems to be the most mature of the bunch. It features Full episodes of your favourite CityTV shows, the ability to share individual videos via email, Facebook, and/or Twitter. You can to create/edit your list of favourite videos, and track your video history. The app notifies you when your favorite shows are available on the app and on television.

All US networks also offer streaming content but most is not available outside the US. But if you like yourTV bite-size the new Touchtv app for iPad allows access to a selection of programing from a variety of US networks

All apps are free at the App Store and all streaming video is free as well.

    Not that I wouldn’t prefer native apps but my Android tablet (& phone) can play all this content directly from the website in the same quality as the desktop web site using the infamous Flash for Android plug-in.

      I do the same on my Android phone..but the native apps are nice on iOS devices
